The Over-40 Division received a boost when two new teams applied to join. Bridgeport Cafee Italia were introduced to the SASL by Alberto Lopez of the White Eagles. Dave Carmody gave up managing West Haven RTG to start the West Haven Grays Over-40 team to enter the SASL.

Milford Hurricanes agreed to return to the Over-40 Division for at least one more season.

Hamden Conte, who had struggled in the lower recesses of the League in recent seasons, are convinced to play in the Over-40 Division too, giving the division four teams.

It was decided to scrap the Fourth Division from 1998 and revert back to the Third Division East and Third Division West format of 1997.

Madison FC found themselves in the Third Division East, not the Fourth Division as they had planned the previous season!

Derby Marios changed their name to Derby Quitus.

Middletown SC changed their name to Middletown Italian Society.

Only one new team joined the Over-30 League this season; Wallingford Trout Brook, made up of players from a variety of SASL teams. Trout Brook is the name of their sponsors, a brew-pub in town!

Waterford SC achieve the League and Cup "Double," the seventh time this phenomenon has occurred out of a possible eight seasons. Incredible.

Garry Archer inaugurated the SASL World Wide Web site in April. The site was designed for statistics, historical facts, but more importantly, results and standings accessible to the SASL masses for the first time. Previously the results had been sent to newspapers with wide circulation, such as the Hartford Courant and the New Haven Register. The problem was, the Courant only printed them if they had space and the Register never printed them.

After the season ends Garry Archer tended his resignation as League Recording Secretary, citing the enormous amount of work involved in maintaining the SASL Website.
