It is with the deepest sadness that I regret to inform you of the passing away of a friend and Connecticut Soccer Hall of Famer (class of 1999) and Connecticut soccer legend Frank Kantz, aged 81 years old, on Wednesday, August 4th, 2010.

I had known Frank for many years, he had officiated many games I have played in over the last couple of decades at least. I also used to see him at least once a year at the Connecticut Soccer Hall of Fame induction ceremony dinner held every year in January. We used to talk soccer all the time and he told me about his coming over from Hungary in 1951 (about the same age when I came to the U.S.) and all the clubs he played for. I can tell you without any shadow of a doubt, he was one of the best referees I've ever played with. Frank was a perfect gentleman, a truly wonderful person. I know that many of you who also knew him will absolutely agree with those comments. In this respect, he will be sadly missed by all of Connecticut soccer for his many decades of contribution, not only as a referee, but also as a player and a referee assessor. I had the deepest respect for him and was so honoured and privileged to know him, not only in soccer, but as a great man.

A tribute to Frank's life will take place on Wednesday, August 11th at the Ahern Funeral Home, Unionville, Connecticut. Calling hours are from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a short presentation at 5:30 PM.

Frank will be sadly missed as a valuable member of Connecticut soccer community. Our prayers and deepest sympathies go to his family from all of us in the brotherhood of the Shoreline Adult Soccer League.

Frank, from all of us here in the Shoreline Adult Soccer League, past and present, rest in peace.
