THE OFFICIAL OBITUARY
Marco was affiliated with the Vasco da Gama Community Club of the SASL
where was the manager as well as their goalkeeper for their Over-30 team.
Jaime Jorge has assumed Marco's duties as manager of the Over-30s team. Jaime wrote to me about Marco's last days.
I am quoting some of that e-mail here with Jaime's permission:
"This past Saturday our club suffered an
incredible loss as Marco past away after a terrible battle with cancer.
"It left us in disarray in many ways as he has been a great friend, manager of the club, and not to mention
fantastic goalie.
"We were almost without passes this past Sunday since he had all the information in his hospital room. We
expected him to be done with treatment last Thursday and with us on the sideline on Sunday. That never occurred
unfortunately.
"It was only due to his courageous sister that she made sure we received the passes in time for the game.
Marco, the night before passing away, had asked her to make sure she got the passes to us prior to Sunday's game.
Incredible!"
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, 23rd April at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road,
Trumbull, Connecticut.
Marco will be sadly missed as a valuable member of the SASL as a player
and a manager. Our prayers and deepest sympathies go to his family from all of us in the brotherhood of the Shoreline
Adult Soccer League.
Marco, from all of us here in the Shoreline Adult Soccer League, past
and present, rest in peace.
