Bertil A. Larson, 90, of Glastonbury, widower of S. Maria (Jacobson) Larson passed away peacefully on Thursday, (January 9, 2003) at Hartford Hospital.

Born in Worcester, MA, November 20, 1912, and the son of the late Arthur and Jenny (Hake) Larson. Mr. Larson was a graduate of New Britain H.S. Prior to moving to Glastonbury in 1985, he lived in Newington for over 50 years and was a self-employed owner of a dry cleaning business.

Bert was best known for his involvement in soccer. A goalkeeper, he played for Springfield Swedish, Boston Swedish, Providence Vikings, and Hartford Scandia A.C. Later, he had run teams, leagues, state association and junior programs.

In 1988 he was inducted into the
U.S. Soccer Federation Hall of Fame. He covered soccer for The Hartford Courant from 1951 until the mid-1970's.

He was active in Newington Politics and served as 3rd selectman.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Saga Larson of Sarasota, FL; his daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Stanley Palasek of Glastonbury; three grandchildren, Christina Larson-Chebili of Vienna, VA, Lisa A. Palasek of Boston, MA, and Matthew E. Palasek of Atlanta, GA; a great-granddaughter, Nicole Chebili of Vienna, VA; a brother, Carl A. Larson of New York; and many nieces and nephews. His brother, Harold Larson, predeceased him.

Funeral services will be private with no calling hours and interment will be at the family's convenience.

USSF Hall of Fame in Oneonta, NY.
